Robin Browne is a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. He has more than twenty years’ post qualification experience in many aspects of patent, trademark, design and exploitation matters. His practice has included prosecution and filing of European and national patent applications for a wide variety of clients with particular emphasis on chemical and pharmaceutical subject matter. He has experience of patent and trademark litigation in the UK High Court, Court of Appeal and House of Lords.

Paul Chapman is senior partner in the Life Sciences group at Kilburn & Strode, a London (UK) based firm of Patent Attorneys. He is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney and has been practising for over 20 years in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical chemistry areas. Paul also spent some time working in house for a major UK pharmaceutical company. Today his practice concentrates on patent drafting and prosecution in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, drug delivery, diagnostic and medical device fields. In recent years more and more of his time has been spent working with clients on Oppositions and Appeals before the European Patent Office.

Elizabeth Cook’s practice concentrates on the drafting and prosecution of UK, European and International patent applications in the areas of chemistry (including organic, inorganic and pharmaceutical chemistry) and biochemistry. Her clients include large multinational companies and universities. She works closely with these clients in identifying inventions and proposing patent protection strategies. Elizabeth also advises clients on third party patents, particularly in relation to European oppositions. She obtained a BSc double honours degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry in and a PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry from the University of Southampton.

Dr. Walter Maiwald is the managing director of Maiwald Patentanwalts GmbH in Munich, Germany. His main practice areas include German and international intellectual property law, including patent and trademark prosecution and infringement, litigation, licensing and related consulting services. He has organized and conducted national and international litigation for major clients, in fields ranging from pharmaceuticals to sensor and signal processing technologies. He has successfully represented clients at all court levels in Germany and up to the European Patent Office’s Enlarged Board of Appeal. Walter studied chemistry and English language and literature at the University of Hamburg and at Imperial College, London. He took his German patent bar examination in 1985 and his European patent attorney’s examination in 1987 and is a registered European trademark attorney.

Troy A. Groetken is a Shareholder with McAndrews Held & Malloy Ltd in Chicago. As a registered patent practitioner, Troy regularly counsels international and Fortune 100 and 500 clients regarding advanced patent prosecution, licensing, complex transactional issues, and global portfolio management matters involving chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological matters ranging from new drug (small-molecule, recombinant, combinational technologies, etc.) entities, surfactant technologies, agricultural compositions, gellants, polyols, lubricants, coatings, laundry and cleaning products, pharmaceutical supplements, personal care and cosmetic formulations, alternative fuels, and renewable energies. Prior to practicing patent law, Troy has worked as a clinical consultant pharmacist, supervised drug research programs, evaluated drug management protocols, and performed drug treatment trials on behalf of the FDA. Troy is also the past-President and current Vice-President/Board Member to the Association of Patent Law Firms.
